The Greek word anapausis

Found just five times in the New Testament (Mt. 11:29; 12:43; Lk. 11:24; Rev. 4:8; 14:11), the Greek noun “apapausis” described rest or the termination of labor.

Jesus promised “rest” to those who choose to be His people (Mt. 11:29).  Evil spirits are described as seeking a place to “rest” (Mt. 12:43; Lk. 11:24), perhaps because they do not want to go to the abyss (Lk. 8:31; Rev. 9:1-2).  The unsaved will have no “rest” from eternal torment (Rev. 14:11).
