The Greek word Annas

“Annas” (Lk. 3:2; Jn. 18:13, 24; Acts 4:6) was the father-in-law of Caiaphas, the Jewish high priest.

During the lifetime of Annas and Caiaphas “the word of God came unto John the son of Zacharias in the wilderness” (Lk. 3:2).  Annas is also mentioned in conjunction with Jesus’ trials (Jn. 18:13, 24) and the early persecution of Christians (Acts 4:6).
