The Greek word “barutimos”

Found just once in the New Testament (Mt. 26:7), the Greek adjective “barutimos” meant “very precious,” “very expensive,” “of great price.” Jesus was anointed by a “very expensive” ointment. The Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament (1:200) said the “meaning of the word is similar to that of the expressions ‘very dear’ and ‘sumptuous.’”
