The Greek word “diamerismos”

Limited to Lk. 12:51, the Greek noun “diamerismos” meant “division” or “dissension.”

Jesus said He came to bring “division” to the earth (compare Mt. 10:34).  Jesus is the “Prince of Peace” (Isa. 9:6), but His gospel (Mt. 10:32-33) is powerful enough (Heb. 4:12; Eph. 6:17) to compel people to earnestly follow or actively resist Him.
