National Check Network (NCN) -
A check collection information page from bumchecks.com

Before signing up with any bad check collection company ask this question:  Does your check collection service report to any bad check databases?  Reporting bad check writers to a national check writing database is an important tool in recovering bad checks.  One very large database is the NCN (National Check Network).

You have probably given a check to a cashier at a place like Walmart® and watched your check go into a "reader" (this machine scans checks to see if a check writer is in a bad check database).  If the scan matches a database record, it is rejected!  Reporting bad check writers to bad check databases is a powerful check collection tool for returned but some check collection companies do not do it!

NorthStar Technologies is a national check recovery service for all types of bad checks and it reports all NSF check writers to the National Check Network (NCN), one of the largest databases for bad check writers and the service is absolutely free to businesses.  The NCN is also used by nearly 200,000 merchants, some of which are:   Wal-Mart®, Dollar General®, K-Mart®, Staples®, Pearl Vision®, The Gap®, Old Navy®, and many grocery stores.

If NSF check writers will not pay, or you have stop payment and closed account checks, NorthStar offers free credit bureau reporting.  When bad check writers receive notification that their credit will be affected, or a bank tells them their credit report contains some problems, many bad check gain renewed enthusiasm about honoring their bad checks.

As long as a bad check writer in the NCN database, tens of thousands of merchants--many of them large chain stores--will not accept ANY checks from the customers who write you bad checks.  If you are serious about having your bad checks collected, insist on using a collection service that immediately reports every bad check writer to a major bad check database.
