The Greek word agon

Used only six times the New Testament (Phil. 1:30; Col. 2:1; 1 Thess. 2:2; 1 Tim. 6:12; 2 Tim. 4:7; Heb. 12:1), the Greek noun “agon” is translated by the words “conflict,” “contention,” “fight,” and “race” in the KJV.  This noun often presents the Christian life as a type of “contest” which must be endured or completed.
