The Greek word akros

Found just a few times in the New Testament (Mt. 24:31; Mk. 13:27; Lk. 16:24; Heb. 11:21), the Greek noun “akros” described the “end” or “outermost” of something.

This word describes the “end” of heaven in Mt. 24:31 and the “uttermost” part of the earth and heaven in Mk. 13:27. In Jesus’ story of the rich man and Lazarus (Lk. 16:24), this term describes the “tip” of Lazarus’ finger and illustrates the great suffering of unsaved people in the after-life.
