The Greek word halosis

Found just once in the New Testament (2 Pet. 2:12), the Greek noun “halosis” meant “capture” or “catch.” Peter used this term to describe false teachers.

Just as some animals need to be “captured” or “taken” so they can be disposed of, so Peter said the apostates he described were in need of “capture.”

Peter’s use of this word reminds us about the importance of avoiding false doctrine.
