The Greek word hamartema

Found just six times in the New Testament (Mk. 3:28-29; 4:12; Rom. 3:25; 1 Cor. 6:18; 2 Pet. 1:9), the Greek noun “hamartema” described an “act of disobedience,” “transgression,” or a “sin.”

Jesus used this term when speaking about blaspheming the Holy Spirit (Mk. 3:28-29). Paul said under the Old Testament “sins” were “passed over” (Rom. 3:25). He also used this term when discussing sexual immorality (1 Cor. 6:18).
