The Greek word ameleo

Found five times in the New Testament (Mt. 22:5; 1 Tim. 4:14; Heb. 2:3; 8:9; 2 Pet. 1:12), the Greek verb “ameleo” meant “neglect” or “disregard.”

God makes a wonderful offer of salvation to the world, but some “make light of it” (Mt. 22:5) and “neglect” it (Heb. 2:3). Some who do become Christians “neglect” some of their gifts (1 Tim. 4:14). Peter said he would not be “negligent” (KJV) about reminding Christians of what they needed to know and do (2 Pet. 1:12).
