The Greek word anakainosis

Found just twice in the New Testament (Rom. 12:2; Tit. 3:5), the Greek noun “anakainosis” meant “change” or “renew.”

Rather than conform to the thinking and ways of our “evil world” (Gal. 1:4), Christians are to “renew” their minds (Rom. 12:2).  The “renewing” of the Holy Spirit in Tit. 3:5, as explained in this author’s Bible commentary on 1 Cor. 12:13a, is just another way of describing the power of God’s word (compare “with the word” in Eph. 5:26).
