Found just once in the New Testament (Jas. 1:5), the Greek adverb “haplos” meant “liberally” or “generously.”
James said God is able to “liberally” impart wisdom to those who seek it. This term shows “the undividedness and honesty of God’s giving contrasted
with the inner division of the one who doubts. God gives without any hidden motivations but the doubter is “a double-minded man” (Dictionary of New Testament Theology, 3:572). “Hence the doubters are called upon to purify their hearts (Jas. 4:8)” (ibid).
