Found in Acts 22:1; 25:16, 1 Cor. 9:3; 2 Cor. 7:11; Phil. 1:7, 17; 2 Tim. 4:16; 1 Pet. 3:15, the Greek noun “apologia” described a verbal defense or a reply. It is not difficult to see how this word is associated with the English term “apologetics.”
Christianity is an evidence based religion and Christians need to have an “apologetic” faith (i.e. they need to be prepared to verbally defend the gospel).
Since Christianity has been given by God, those who are well versed in it have sufficient tools to successfully defend against anything that challenges it. Those who profess to be uninterested in religion are often most terrified of talking to someone who is well versed in the Bible or Christian apologetics.
