The Greek word apoleia

Found in Matthew, Mark, John, Acts, Romans, Philippians, Second Thessalonians, First Timothy, Hebrews, Second Peter and Revelation, the Greek noun “apoleia” meant “destruction,” “ruin,” or “waste.”  Jesus said there is a “broad way” that leads to “destruction” (Mt. 7:13).  The ointment used on the Lord was called a “waste” (Mt. 26:8; Mk. 14:4).  There are “damnable” heresies” (2 Pet. 2:1) and sons of “perdition” (Jn. 17:12; 2 Pet. 3:7).  Those who twist the Scriptures do so to their own “destruction” (2 Pet. 3:16).
