The Greek word “arguros”

Found just five times in the New Testament (Mt. 10:9; Acts 17:29; 1 Cor. 3:12; Jas. 5:3; Rev. 18:12), the Greek noun “arguros” meant “silver.”

Jesus told His disciples they would not need to take any “silver” on the missionary journey to the “lost sheep of Israel” (Mt. 10:6, 9).  The Godhead is unlike “silver” or other things men regard as precious (Acts 17:29).  Some converts are like “silver” while others are like stubble (1 Cor. 3:12).  Men often think silver is what they want or need, but the Bible says this is not true (Jas. 5:3).  The way of “Babylon” (Rev. 18:2) is associated with “silver” in Rev. 18:12.
