Found just twice in the New Testament (1 Thess. 4:16; Jude 9), the Greek noun “archangelos” meant “archangel.” This term is a compound word (“arche” meaning “first” and “angelos” meaning “angel” or “messenger”) and thus describes a “chief angel” or an “archangel.”
We do not much information about an archangel, but
we do know there is at least one of them and his name is “Michael” (Jude 9). John made specific reference to Michael in Rev. 12:7 (“And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels [going forth] to war with the dragon; and the dragon warred and his angels”).
