The Greek word “archaios”

Found in Mt. 5:21, 27 (some manuscripts), 33; Lk. 9:8, 19; Acts 15:7, 21; 21:16; 2 Cor. 5:17; 2 Pet. 2:5; Rev. 12:9; 20:2, the Greek adjective “archaios” meant “old” or “ancient.”  Jesus used this term in the Sermon on the Mount (Mt. 5:21, 27, 33).  In Lk. 9:8, 19 the Lord spoke of “old” prophets.  In Acts 21:16 we read of an “old” (early or original) disciple.  After conversion the “old” things are passed away (2 Cor. 5:17).  The “ancient” world was not spared from the flood (2 Pet. 2:5).  Satan is the “old” serpent (Rev. 12:9; 20:2).
