The Greek word “astheneo”

Related to the noun “astheneia,” the verb “astheneo” described weakness and sickness.  Verses that use this term literally include Mt. 10:8; 25:36; Mk. 6:56; Lk. 9:2; Jn. 4:46; 5:3, 7; 11:1-3; Acts 9:37; 19:12; Phil. 2:26; 2 Tim. 4:20.  Texts which use this word figuratively to describe a spiritually weakened condition, including a “weak conscience,” include Rom. 14:1-2; 1 Cor. 8:11-12; 2 Cor. 13:3.
