The Greek word daimonion

Found primarily in the books of Matthew-John, but also mentioned in Acts, First Corinthians, First Timothy, James and Revelation, the Greek noun “daimonion” meant “demon.”  Jesus noted how some “never known” by Him will claim they cast out demons (Mt. 7:22).  Demon possession caused violence in at least some instances (Lk. 4:35).  In at least some circumstances they “cried out” when they left their human host (Lk. 4:41).  Paul noted how some have “sacrificed” to demons (1 Cor. 10:21) and how some doctrines are “demonic” (1 Tim. 4:1).  Demons have faith (Jas. 2:19) and have an interest in false miracles (Rev. 16:14).
