The Greek word “desmos”

Found twenty times in the New Testament, the Greek noun “desmos” meant “imprisonment,” “bond,” “shackle.”

Mark (7:35) used this word to describe a speech impediment.  Luke used it to describe a crippled woman (Lk. 13:16).  All the other places it occurs describe some type of “shackle” as seen from Lk. 8:29; Acts 16:26; 20:23;  Phil. 1:7; 2 Tim. 2:9; Heb. 11:36; etc.
