The Greek word “dechomai”

Used several times in the New Testament and found especially often in Matthew-Luke, “dechomai” has three common meanings.  In some places this verb means “receive” or “welcome” someone (see Lk. 10:8; 16:4).  It can also mean “seize” or “take hold” of something (see Eph. 6:17).  A third and final sense is “approve” or “accept” something such as facts (see Lk. 8:13; Acts 8:14; 1 Thess. 1:6; 2:13; Jas. 1:21).
