The Greek word “diakonos”

Found in the books of Matthew, Mark, John, Romans, First Corinthians, Second Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, First Thessalonians and First Timothy, the Greek noun “diakonos” meant “servant” or “deacon.”  Jesus used this term in Mt. 20:26, and Jesus’ mother told “servants” to do whatever Jesus told them (Jn. 2:5).  Civil government is identified as a “servant” of God in Rom. 13:4.  Satan has his “ministers” (2 Cor. 11:15).  A properly organized congregation has “deacons” (1 Tim. 3:8, 12).
