The Greek verb “ἐξομολογέω”

Limited to Mt. 3:6; 11:25; Mk. 1:5; Lk. 10:21; 22:6; Acts 19:18; Rom. 14:11; 15:9; Phil. 2:11; Jas. 5:16; Rev. 3:5, the Greek verb “exomologeo” meant “praise,” “confess,” promise.”

Normally confession/acknowledgement is the proper meaning.  People “confessed” their sins (Mt. 3:6; Mk. 1:5).  Confession is also seen in Acts 19:18; Rom. 14:11; 15:9; Phil. 2:11; Jas. 5:16; Rev. 3:5.  Praise is the proper meaning in Mt. 11:25 and Lk. 10:21.  Promise is seen in Lk. 22:6.
