The Greek word “bothunos”

Found just three times in the New Testament (Mt. 12:11; 15:14; Lk. 6:39), the Greek noun “bothunos” meant “ditch,” “cistern,” “hole” and suggests “an object of danger.”

Palestine has many “holes,” and Jesus likely drew on this fact to convey a very important teaching: If the “blind lead the blind,” both will “fall into the hole” (ditch).

Be careful about who influences you, especially in spiritual matters! Do not end up in a spiritual hole (ditch)!
