Gallion – Just like a modern politician

Mentioned only in Acts 18:12, 14, 17, “Gallion” was the proconsul of Achaia who refused to judge the apostle Paul.

This official “did not want to show too much favor to the Jews; on the other hand, he did not want to encroach upon the autonomy of the synagogue because Claudius had just decided in favor of the Jews in some of the cases between Jews and Greeks” (Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament, 1:234).
