The Greek word anorthoo

Found only in Lk. 13:13; Acts 15:16; Heb. 12:12, the Greek verb “anorthoo” meant straighten, strengthen, or restore.

A woman with a bowed body was “made straight” by Jesus (Lk. 13:13).  In Acts 15:16 this term has the sense of “set up” (God promised to set up the tabernacle of David through Jesus).  In Heb. 12:12 this verb describes the “lifting up” of feeble arms and knees and thus live a committed Christian life.
