The Greek verb “εὐχαριστέω”

Found almost forty times in the New Testament and, with the exception of Rom. 16:4, always used to express appreciation to God, the Greek verb “eucharisteo” meant “to give thanks,” “to be thankful,” “return thanks.”

This word is found multiple times in Matthew-John (see Mt. 15:36; Mk. 8:6; Lk. 18:11; 22:17, 19; Jn. 6:23; 11:41), and is also used several times by Paul (compare 1 Cor. 1:4; 2 Cor. 1:11; 1 Thess. 1:2).  Failing to thank God is a very serious matter as seen from Rom. 1:21.
