The Greek word “atopos”

Found just four times in the New Testament (Lk. 23:41; Acts 25:5; 28:6; 2 Thess. 3:2), the Greek adjective “atopos” meant “out of place.” This term is composed of “topos” (place) plus the “alpha” prefix.

With the exception of Acts 28:6, this word always means “wrong,” “evil,” or “amiss” in the New Testament. In Acts 28:6 this term means “unusual.” After Paul was bitten by a serpent nothing “unusual” happened to him.
