The Greek word “dianoia”

Found twelve times in the New Testament, the Greek noun “dianoia” meant “mind,” “intellect,” “feelings,” “understanding,” “disposition.”

Jesus said God is to be loved with all our “mind” (Mt. 22:37; Mk. 12:30; Lk. 10:27).  Man is capable of being “enlightened” (Eph. 1:18), but some choose to have their “understanding” darkened (Eph. 4:18).  The New Testament is to be put into the “minds” of people (Heb. 8:10; 10:16).  Peter (1 Pet. 1:13; 2 Pet. 3:1) and John (1 Jn. 5:20) also used this word.
