The Greek word “daktulos”

Found a handful of times in the New Testament (Mt. 23:4; Mk. 7:33; Lk. 11:20, 46; 16:24; Jn. 8:6; 20:25, 27), the Greek noun “daktulos” meant “finger.”  Jesus spoke of scribes and Pharisees who refused to move one of their “fingers” to help others (Mt. 23:4 and compare Lk. 11:46).  We read about the “finger of God” in Lk. 11:20.  The image of a “finger” is associated with the afterlife in Lk. 16:24.
