The Greek adjective “ἐκλεκτός” – Found just over twenty times in the New Testament, the Greek adjective “eklektos” meant “elect,” “select,” choose.”

Jesus (Mt. 24:22, 24, 31; Mk. 13:20, 22, 27) associated this word with the destruction of Jerusalem  in 70 A.D.  In Lk. 18:7, this word occurs in a context where prayer is under discussion. Paul used this word in Rom. 8:33.  He asked who could lay charges against God’s “elect.”  The other use of this term in the book of Romans (16:13) refers to being chosen “in Christ” (i.e. this is not an arbitrary choice on the part of God).  Good angels are associated with this word in 1 Tim. 5:21.  Other important places where this term is used include 2 Tim. 2:10; 1 Pet. 2:4, 6, 9; 2 Jn. 1, 13; Rev. 17:14.
