The Greek word “botane”

Found just once in the New Testament (Heb. 6:7), the Greek noun “botane” meant “vegetation” or “herbage.” “In Heb. 6:7 responsive believers are likened to fertile land heavy with crops” (Dictionary of New Testament Theology, 2:211). This definition implies that true Christians are not “fruitless” people. Stated another way, all true children of God should be producing as much spiritual “fruit” as possible, lest they be “cut off” (Jn. 15:2).
