The Greek word “gangraina”

Found just once in the New Testament (2 Tim. 2:17), the Greek noun “gangraina” means “cancer” or “gangrene.” This word described a disease or ulcer which eats away at the body unless it is properly treated.

Paul used this term to describe the effects of false teaching.

Cancer in the physical realm may take a life; “cancer” in the spiritual realm will allow the devil to claim an eternal spirit.
