The Greek word “desmios”

Found sixteen times in the New Testament, the Greek noun “desmios” meant “prisoner.”

Barsabbas was a “prisoner” (Mt. 27:16).  Christians like Paul spent time among “prisoners” (Acts 16:25) because of preaching the gospel.  Paul said he was a “prisoner” of the Lord (Eph. 4:1; Phile. 1).  We are to remember those who are in “bonds” (prisoners), Heb. 13:3.
