The Greek word apodektos

Found just twice in the New Testament (1 Tim. 2:3; 5:4), the Greek adjective “apodektos” meant “acceptable” or “pleasing.”  God is pleased when His people pray for others such as government officials (1 Tim. 2:3) because this may lead to their salvation (1 Tim. 2:4).  God is also pleased by those who seek to help their parents, some of whom may be widows (1 Tim. 5:4).
