Damaskos (Damascus)

Found mainly in the book of Acts, but also referenced in 2 Cor. 11:32; Gal. 1:17, “Damascus” was the city where Paul was baptized (Acts 9:18).  This city was old but important, and it was located “in the fertile plain southeast of the Anti-Lebanon Range on the great caravan roads.  After conquest by the Romans (64 B.C.) and incorporation into the association of the Decapolis, Damascus was temporarily in the possession of the Nabataean king Aretas IV” (Exegetical Dictionary of the New Testament, 1:276).
