The Greek word “daneizo”

Limited to Mt. 5:42 and Lk. 6:34-35, the Greek verb “daneizo” meant “borrow” or “lend.”  Jesus instructed His people to “lend” to their enemies.

Some have concluded this means “give people whatever they want,” but an old commentator (Bengel, 2:118), wisely said:  “a knife to the murderer?  No.”  Jesus spoke about helping enemies who had real and legitimate/lawful needs.
